RESTORATION

The restoration effort began in 2013 – collecting $68,000 in donations and a state tourism grant of $43,000 for repairs and improvements.

The Union Miners Perpetual Care Association is continuing to solicit donations for the effort. Anyone who gives $500 or more by June 20 will be recognized on a plaque at the monument, and all donations will be noted in the rededication program booklet.

Donations can be sent to Mother Jones Monument Fund, Illinois AFL-CIO, 534 S. 2nd St., Springfield, IL, 62701.

MUSEUM

Meanwhile, work continues on a new city hall in Mt. Olive that will include a Mother Jones museum to help tell the story of the famous labor leader of the late 1800s and early 1900s.
