Beth Barton, president of Missouri Women in Trades (right), and Sandra Carter, president of the St. Louis chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction, accept an honor from St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE) Executive Director Michael K. Holmes proclaiming the first week of March Women in Construction Week.
Holmes presented the proclamation to MoWIT and NAWIC on behalf of the city during a joint ice cream social/networking event sponsored by the two women’s groups at Tartlon Corporation on March 7. The goal of the event was to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry.
Barton, a Tarlton superintendent and Carpenters Local 1596 member, said she was pleased with the turnout at the event and noted that five women attended specifically to get information on how to get into the building trades. – Missouri Women in Trades photo
