O’Fallon – The O’Fallon Fire Protection District held a groundbreaking ceremony recently to mark the start of construction on the city’s new Fire Station No. 1 at 1200 Main St. in Old Town O’Fallon.

The new $2.9 million firehouse is being built under a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) and will replace an existing station to better serve the north side of the district. A voter-approved bond issue passed in 2011 is funding the project.

PLAs are a pre-hire collective bargaining agreements establishing the terms and conditions of employment, and ensure projects are completed on time and on budget by setting mandatory procedures for dispute resolution so labor and contractual disputes do not create disruptions or work stoppages.

Paric Construction is the general contractor for the project.

The new fire station is expected to be completed in February.
