Softball teams, donations needed for Labor Day events

East Alton, IL – Openings are still available for softball teams to join the annual Labor Day softball tournament of the Greater Madison County Federation of Labor.

The tournament begins Wednesday, Aug. 23, and will conclude Saturday, Aug. 26. The captains’ meeting to set rules will be at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 16 at the Machinists Center, 161 N. Shamrock, East Alton, 62024. The $150 fee can be sent there.

All affiliated and non-affiliated unions in the St. Louis region and Metro-East are invited. Proceeds go to the charitable group chosen by the winning team.

The Federation is also seeking donations for its two Labor Day parades, in Alton on Saturday, Aug. 26, starting at 10 a.m. at the old Alton High School pit area on College Avenue, and on Labor Day, Sept. 4, proceeding from downtown Granite City to Wilson Park. The Alton picnic after the parade will be at Gordon F. Moore Community Park, and the Granite City picnic will be at Wilson Park.
