Granite City, IL – Workers from Granite City Steel are ready to tell U.S. Steel to put them back to work.

A rally billed as “Fire Up! Let’s Make Steel” is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, at the Tri-Cities Labor Temple at 20th and State streets.

The plant has been up and running, but an estimated 1,200 employees are still laid off because the main steel-making operation has not yet resumed.

A flier for the event states: “We’re ready! It’s time to invest in and protect America! Stand with laid-off steelworkers!”

The public is welcome.
