Trap Shoot croppedKick-off event for United Way fund drive

East Alton – Labor leaders from Missouri and Illinois are urging union members to participate in the Seventh Annual Labor/United Way Kick-Off Trap Shoot and BBQ Friday, Sept. 12, to help the United Way reach its $25,000 union headquarters fundraising goal.

A letter urging participation was recently sent to union members. The letter was signed by St. Louis Labor Council President Bob Soutier, St. Louis Building & Construction Trades Executive Secretary-Treasurer Jeff Aboussie, Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council President Bill Thurston, Southwestern Illinois Building & Construction Trades Executive Secretary-Treasurer Dale Stewart and Greater Madison County Federation of Labor President B. Dean Webb.

“The great tradition of the United Way and Organized Labor Partnership continues!” the leaders wrote in the letter.

The trap shoot will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Winchester Trap and Skeet Facility, 600 Powder Mill Rd. (Route 140 and Powder Mill). Shooters need to be at the range no later than 10 a.m.

A barbecue will be held after the shoot at the Machinists Hall 161, North Shamrock in East Alton.

Entry fee is $60 and includes two rounds of trap and the barbecue. The event will again include options to play Five-Station and Rabbit for an additional fee collected the day of the shoot.

“Proceeds will be donated to the United Way of Greater St. Louis on behalf of all five AFL-CIO Labor Councils,” the leaders wrote.

The Winchester Facility provides shotguns and ammo; however, shooters may bring their own guns.
