Bargaining committee recommends Holten Meat employees reject latest offer, immediately strike

Holten Meat employees will meet to vote on a new contract proposal from their employer in a secret ballot vote on Saturday, March 18, UFCW Local 655 reports.

Last month, 99 percent of voting members rejected a previous proposal. The Local 655 bargaining committee, which consists of union negotiators and Holten employees, are unanimously recommending another rejection of the company’s newest proposal and authorization to immediately begin the strike.

Voting will take place after UFCW Local 655 explains the changes Holten has made in its newest proposal. The vote will occur at American Legion Post 485, 200 South 5th St., in Dupo, IL. A two-thirds majority is needed to authorize a strike.

If a strike is authorized, picket lines will begin going up immediately following the vote on Saturday.
