St. Louis Labor Council
We had a beautiful day for Labor Day this year! The weather really cooperated and we had great participation.
I want to thank everyone involved with helping to make this year’s parade such a tremendous success, from the union participants, to the crowds of on-lookers, this parade was one of our biggest and best yet!
A special thanks goes out to all of our marshals and volunteers who we absolutely could not do this without – you are invaluable! Thank you to Mayor Slay, Police Chief Dotson and Fire Chief Jenkerson for helping us to lead off the parade. It’s always a pleasure to have them be a part of our great labor movement and our special day.
I’d also like to thank Mr. Duke Ajamian for being our Grand Marshal this year. Mr. Ajamian was in the United State Marine Corp and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. It was an extreme honor to have this 94 year old gentleman join us. We thank him for his service to our country and for being a part of our Labor Day festivities. Also, huge thanks to Tom Hadican and Dave Sinclair Ford for providing the beautiful Ford Mustang in which Mr. Ajamian rode. Dave Sinclair Ford has always been a true champion of labor.
Sincere gratitude to all the unions for getting their members to make such a great showing of the labor force in the St. Louis area.
And last, but not least, I would like to thank my staff Karen Lyons and Kate Souders for their diligent hard work in coordinating this event. It takes a huge effort to put this all together and they did an outstanding job. Also, this could never go off as smoothly as it does without the tireless efforts of our parade coordinator Sylvester Bolden, along with Dave Meinell and all of marshals. They get the parade going, keep the peace and generally make it a fun event for all!
Again a big thank you to everyone! And be thinking of our parade next year and how we can improve upon it, as it will be the 250th anniversary of the City of St. Louis and we’d like to show everyone that unions – “Built this City!”
