Fairview Heights, IL – Corey Sudja, a member of IBEW Local 309 and a candidate for 1st Ward alderman in Fairview Heights, will hold a fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. on March 16 at the Steamfitters Local 439 Hall on Illinois Route 159 south of Collinsville.

At a meeting last month of the Southwestern Illinois Building & Construction Trades Council, Local 439 Business Manager and Council President Charles “Totsie” Bailey said Sudja is running against a non-union contractor who wants to roll back the city’s Project Labor Agreement.

“We need to get Corey elected,” Bailey told the Council.

Sudja was endorsed by the Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council.

In campaign literature, Sudja notes that he is a lifelong resident of the city, a Sunday school teacher, a former volunteer firefighter, a member of the planning commission, a precinct committeeman and that his wife teaches at Grant School. They have three daughters.

PRIORITIES

Among the priorities he listed are maintaining residential areas, enforcing building and housing codes, reducing speeding, expanding sewer service and adding sidewalks, stabilizing the West End, replacing Pleasant Ridge Road and improving Wilshire Drive and Holy Cross Road.

“I am running for alderman of Ward 1 because I am focused on the future and continued growth of our city, as well as maintaining our property values and the beauty of our ward,” he said. He can be contacted at csudja@gmail.com.
