Caseyville, IL – Metro-East unions will hold a major election rally from noon to 3 p.m. at Caseyville VFW Park, 415 N. Long St., on Saturday, Sept. 15 to support Labor-backed candidates in the Nov. 7 election.

Candidate for governor J.B. Pritzker and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin will lead the list of speakers, along with State Treasurer Mike Frerichs and State Comptroller Susana Mendoza, plus congressional nominee Brendan Kelly and others.

NO BIDEN

Totsie Bailey, executive secretary-treasurer of the Southwestern Illinois Building and Construction Trades Council, was working to arrange an appearance by former Vice President Joe Biden, but Biden could not work out a schedule conflict and will not be there.

Bailey said it is crucial for Metro East unions to get their members and supporters to turn out and involved in the election.

“We need to have everybody show up to this important rally,” Bailey said. “We’ve got to talk to our members. We’ve got to get them to vote.”

The overwhelming defeat of Prop A (“right-to-work”) in Missouri on Aug. 7 shows that working people will vote in their best interests when they understand what’s at stake, Bailey said, which is why it’s important for them to educate themselves on the candidates and the issues and participate in the election process.

“We all have to vote unless we want to lose everything,” Bailey said.
