Live-streamed performances to run Dec. 2-6
Bread & Roses Missouri is teaming up with Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE) to present “Visions in Voices,” a collaborative virtual theater experience between the SIUE Theater Department and The Workers’ Opera.
The live performances, which focus on social justice and the COVID-19 pandemic and how both interact with everyday lives, will be held Dec. 2-5 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. on the Bread & Roses YouTube channel.
There will be a live post-show discussion following each performance. The presentations will be directed by Kathryn Bentley and Ernie De Silva, and original music will be composed and performed by Syrhea Conaway.
UPCOMING FUNDRAISERS
In addition to the virtual theater experiences, there are two upcoming fundraisers for Bread & Roses Missouri:
- Shop at Zee Bee Market from Nov. 17-20 and 15 percent of your purchase will be donated to Bread & Roses to help bring art and activism to the community. You can shop online at zeebeemarket.com or visit the store, which is located at
3211 South Grand Blvd. in St. Louis. The market is an ethical retail company that sells unique, handcrafted, Fair Trade and sustainably produced gifts from around the world. - Take part in the Art Is Action auction. The kickoff event will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 4, and the auction will be live until Dec. 7 at midnight. The event was inspired by the success of the 2019 Art Is Labor exhibit and spurred by the impetus of artist and board member Chris Worth’s offer to donate a painting for sale to benefit Bread and Roses. The online art auction will feature selected works by well-known artists and will highlight themes that speak to arts and activism.
