Dr. John Gaal, director of Training and Workforce Development at the Carpenters’ District Council, has been honored by the National Labor and Employment Research Association (LERA) with its LERA Fellows Award at the organizations recent 67th National Convention in Pittsburgh.
Gaal is the first member of the St. Louis Gateway LERA Chapter to win this coveted award that recognizes scholars and practitioners who have made contributions of unusual distinction to the field of labor/management relations.
“We are proud of John and his work in the St. Louis region to promote positive labor and management relationships,” said Gateway Chapter Vice President Rudy Smith, a retired business representative with Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 562.
While the Gateway Chapter has been cited for its excellence by the national Association, this is the first award for an individual from the chapter, Smith said.
The LERA Gateway Chapter includes businesses, many labor unions, and educational and governmental leaders interested in promoting a fuller understanding among groups involved in industrial labor relations through research and education. While they work in a social atmosphere to make communications between groups more readily available and workable, they do not take a position on behalf of either labor or management.
