The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) St Louis Chapter will host its 41st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Human Rights Award Banquet Monday, January 21, at Sheet Metal Workers Local 36 Union Hall, 2329 Chouteau Ave. in St. Louis.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The awards presentations will begin at 6 p.m.

This year’s awardees, honored for their contributions for social justice, human and Labor rights in the St. Louis Metro Area in the tradition of Dr. King include:

• LaKenya Roberson – Organizer, UFCW Local 655.

• Richard von Glahn – Policy Director, Missouri Jobs with Justice.

• Sonja Gholston-Byrd – Director, Labor Engagement, United Way of Greater STL.

• Keith Robinson – President, St Louis Chapter, A. Phillip Randolph Institute.

Richard Womack, administrative assistant to the International Office of the President, AFL-CIO will serve as the keynote speaker.

“We have all been enriched by the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., not because he had a dream of human equality based on social and economic justice but because he had the audacity to oppose the rich and powerful to make the dream real,” said Lew Moye, President Emeritus St. Louis CBTU Chapter.

“The poverty Dr. King opposed is still with us, and so is the racism, anti-unionism, war and arrogance of the rich and powerful; therefore, the best possible tribute we can pay to Dr. King is to continue in 2019 his fighting spirit for peace, justice, jobs, labor rights and equality,” Moye said.

Tickets (banquet donations) are $45 per person or $450 for a table of 10. Please make checks payable to: CBTU, P.O. Box 5034, St. Louis, Mo. 63115. For more information contact Moye at or call 314-495- 5635.
