City highlights ongoing and upcoming projects for Infrastructure week

As cities and states across the country celebrate National Infrastructure week, Nick Dunne, public information officer to the St. Louis mayor’s office, highlighted some of the projects in progress or about to kick off in the City of St. Louis.

• The Louisiana Calm Streets pilot project, started in April to slow traffic from Gravois to Meramec, is making progress. Work is ongoing on curb ramps and sidewalks near Marquette Park, with pinch points, traffic circles, sidewalk replacement, and more. It’s the city’s first calm streets project and is funded through federal dollars and city ward capital money.
• The $11.6 million I-64/Jefferson City Streets project – which will reconnect streets between I-64 and the MLS stadium (Clark and 22nd), build a bike trail from Chouteau up to the MLS Stadium / Market, reconstruct part of Jefferson, and more – is set to begin in late May. The N. Jefferson Ave/Parnell Corridor project, expected to begin in early fall, will reconstruct Jefferson from Market to Natural Bridge.
• St. Louis and regional elected leaders broke ground May 17 on a major expansion of downtown’s America’s Center, also known as AC Next Gen. America’s Center was last updated in 1995. For more information, contact Brian Hall (BHall@explorestlouis.com) at Explore St. Louis.

OTHER PROJECTS

• The city has installed 330 speed bumps since September, with work continuing as weather permits.
• The Board of Public Service is installing a new concrete lake bottom and waterproofing Hyde Park Lake.
• Board Bill 82, signed by Mayor Jones two weeks ago, includes funding for ADA-compliant infrastructure to help make St. Louis more accessible to all. Office of the Disabled Commissioner David Newburger can discuss the scope and nature of these projects.
• The St. Louis Infrastructure Bill (Board Bill 184) funds approximately $86 million dollars to address many of the most critical infrastructure needs, including completion of the conversion of the city’s 46,000 street lights to brighter and energy-saving LED lights, recreation centers repairs at Gamble, Tandy and Wohl centers, public pool renovation work at Tandy, Wohl and Fairgrounds park pools, critical bridge repairs, and more.
