A GoFundMe account has been established for an IBEW Local 1 member who was critically injured in an on-the-job accident May 4.

Brittney Standley, a fourth-year apprentice was working on a telecommunications and security remodeling project at the Sleep Number Store at 701 Gravois, Fenton, Mo., when she fell off a ladder inside of a room in the back of the store. She fractured her skull in three areas on the left side.

Standley was immediately taken to the hospital where she underwent emergency surgery to remove the right side of her skull to relieve pressure and treat a blood clot on her brain, said Meghan Barnes, a close friend and fellow Local 1 apprentice. One of the fractures also punctured her left eardrum.

Doctors say it could take up to 12 weeks for the swelling to go down enough to reattach the skull.

Standley was in stable condition today, Barnes said. Doctors were able to remove a breathing tube and Standley is now breathing on her own and able to follow vocal commands.

“They are hoping she keeps responding well to the treatment,” Barnes said. “She will remain in the hospital for many weeks and she has a huge road ahead of recovery. Please pray.”

MOTHER OF TWO, 19 WEEKS PREGNANT
Standley, of Pevely, is a communications apprentice at Kay Bee Electric & Systems. The 35-year-old is a mother of two young boys, Anthony and Vinney, and is 19 weeks pregnant with her third child.

“The baby is so far so good, but of course the priority medically is for Brittney right now,” Barnes said. “She is going to need all the help we can give her and her baby right now.”

DEDICATED, HARDWORKING
Local 1 Business Representative Paul Reinheimer said there was only one other trades worker in the room with Standley when she fell and he said he did not see what happened.

Reinheimer described Standley as a dedicated, hardworking young woman, who is happy in her career and about her new baby.

“She has been doing very well at Kay Bee,’ he said. “She has a bright future ahead of her and with God’s help, she’ll be back soon.”
