St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at 4967 Forest Park Ave. held a Greek Festival over Labor Day weekend with electrical service provided by Sachs Electric.

Sachs wasn’t the church’s first choice. The original contractor on the job was non-AFL-CIO affiliate Baldi Electric. But when IBEW Local 1 Business Representative Dave Roth pointed out that a Local 1 contractor could do the work better in less time – and that Local 1 and other union members working on the nearby campus renewal project at Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s Hospital were regular customers at the church’s Friday lunches – officials made the switch to Local 1 signatory contractor Sachs Electric.

They were so pleased with the work, they’re having Sachs do some permanent work for the church to save time on set up for next year’s festival.

“They did an excellent job,” Carol Kamburis, a member of the festival executive committee said of Sachs. “We’re very excited with the change.”

In addition, St. Nicholas, which serves lunch on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. is offering a special deal to union members: show your union card and get a free drink with your lunch.

Lunch is $10 and box lunches can be delivered to the job site with advanced notice at 314-361-6924.
