Barnhart, MO – IBEW Local 1 is bannering the new Rock Township Ambulance District House 4, under construction at the intersection of Highway M and St. Luke’s Church Road in Jefferson County, for using Deuster Electric, a Local 57 contractor with a record of violating Missouri’s prevailing wage law.

Local 57 is a non-AFL-CIO electricians union within the Carpenters’ District Council. In 2011 the Missouri Department of Labor found Deuster in violation of Missouri’s prevailing wage law, which requires payment of prevailing wages on jobs receiving public funds. Deuster was assessed $7,261in total wages for the violation. The ambulance district house project is publically funded.

District voters approved a sales tax increase in 2003, to allow the district to add to its existing crew at one house and build a fourth house.

“It’s a slap in the face to every taxpayer in the district,” Local 1 Business Representative Chuck DeMoulin said. “We worked hard to get that passed and raise the taxes, and they turn around and do this.”

  1. Bryan,
We do appreciate the Local 1 folks very much as well as the sheet metal workers, carpenters, bricklayers, pipe fitters and all. However, we also did find some contractors who use Local1 that were fined for doing the same thing. RTAD wants good union labor and is not in a position to get in the middle of an issue between different labor groups. Please expalin that the issue is not with RTAD, but more importantly, it is an issue of one labor group being disgruntled with another labor group. Thank you.
