IN MEMORIAM: Cement Masons Local 527’s Michael John Francis

Michael John Francis, of Cement Masons Local 527,  left this world peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Overland, Mo., on April 6, 2020. He was 77.

Brother Francis was born in the city of St. Louis, the oldest of five children, to John and Ruth Francis. He was a devoted husband to Gloria (nee Poelker) for nearly 47 years and loving father to Sarah (James) and Rebecca (Ben). He passed on his love of miniature trains to his grandson, Joshua, while his granddaughters, Evelyn and Miriam, simply stole his heart and could do no wrong. He is also survived by his sister, Judy (Bewig), and brothers, Bernie, Bob, and Greg.

Although his skillset went far beyond, Brother Francis worked as a cement finisher for over 40 years and was proud to have earned his 60-year member gold card with Local 527 at the end of last year.

Brother Francis enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards with his brothers, and serving as a handyman to family and friends. He was authentic and blunt, sarcastic and dry, honest and hard-working, but also selfless and loving. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

  • Oh Gloria, that is so so sweet! He was always a very nice man to everyone. He was the kind of man everyone should have known. He was good to all and kept his thoughts to himself! What a sweet man never heard him say a bad word about anyone!! So sorry for your loss, but I am sure he is in heaven with my son and my dad! Love you Gloria and will do anything to help!!
