IN MEMORIAM: Laborers Local 110’s David Otten

David J. Otten, 85, of Washington, Mo. passed away on Dec. 17, 2022. Brother Otten, son of the late Joseph Otten and Margaret Burke, was born on April 13, 1937 in St. Louis. He received his education from Deandreas High School. On July 6, 1957, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Macey in St. Louis.

Brother Otten had a life of many chapters with many stories shared with many friends. In his younger years, he was a star on the soccer field, even earning a place in the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame. He became well-respected in the construction industry and worked hard throughout his career as a member of Laborers Local 110. But above all else, Dave loved the joy of his everyday life and cherished his family. His wife, seven children, and many grandchildren were the lights of his life. Everyone who knew Dave will miss him dearly, but we know that we are so lucky simply to have had him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Keith Morris; mother and father-in-law, John and Margaret Macey and brother-in-law, John Macey.

Among his survivors are his wife, Jacqueline Otten, of Washington; seven children, Mary Jo Morris, of Washington, Christine Murphy and husband William, of Kirkwood, Patricia Fry and husband Roger, of Rosebud, David Otten and wife Toni, of Ballwin, Janet Otten of Brentwood, Daniel Otten and wife Tracy, of O’Fallon, Mo., and Matthew Otten, of St. Louis; sister, Joanne Basso, of Chesterfield; sister-in-law, Janet Strange, of St. Louis; grandchildren, Jesse Morris, Madison Morris, Danielle Murphy, Macey Cox, Miles Fry, Emmy Fry, Maxwell Fry, Michael Fry, Zachary Otten, Gracyn Otten, David Dell, Jack Otten, Charles Sims, Kiley Otten, Natalie Otten, Blake Otten, and Olivia Otten; two great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation was held on Dec. 28 at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Gertrude’s Church in Krakow, Mo. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Franklin County Humane Society.
