In Memoriam: Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 101’s Carl Bauer

Belleville IL – Carl J. Bauer, 81, of Belleville, a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 101 and a one-time recipient of the Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council’s Labor Man of the Year award, died July 23 at Memorial Convalescent Center in Belleville.

Mr. Bauer was born Oct. 15, 1935, in Belleville. In his free time, he was an avid golfer, a former Boy Scout leader, and a youth baseball coach for more than 30 years.

He served on the Labor Council for 30 years, beginning in 1991.“Carl was a longstanding member of this Council, back as far as I can remember,” Council President Bill Thurston said. “He was a good guy – always a good, strong union guy.”

Mr. Bauer was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church and the Catholic Holy Family Society. He was married in 1960 to Lois F. Bauer, nee Kennedy, who died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Alan Bauer of Belleville; a daughter, Anne Kozik of Belleville; two guardian children, Tammy Collins and Tonja Sansom; three grandchildren, Alexander Kozik, Carli Kozik and Jason Kozik; two brothers, Joseph Bauer of Belleville and John Darr of St. Petersburg, FL; and two sisters, Barbara Jackson and Jeanne King, both of St. Petersburg, FL.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held July 28 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, with burial at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, handled arrangements.
