IN MEMORIAM: Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 101’s Robert Matzenbacher

Robert Matzenbacher, of Okawville, Ill., passed away at Friendship Manor Healthcare Center in Nashville, Ill. surrounded by family on Friday, May 17, 2024 at age 93.

Brother Matzenbacher enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1951. He was stationed in Seoul, Korea during the Korean War and at Truax Field in Madison, Wis. He was a member of American Legion Post 233 and VFW Post 5596 in Okawville. Bob was a 50-year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 101 until his retirement. He was a faithful member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Okawville where he had previously served on the church council. He was a long-time member of the Okawville Lions Club and served as a village trustee on the Okawville Village Board for several years.

Surviving are his wife Pat Matzenbacher of Okawville; four stepchildren, Toni Young, Alan Evans, Cheri Cody, and Kent Evans; numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hulda (nee Ashauer) Matzenbacher; two children, Robin and Robert in infancy; two brothers, Karl Matzenbacher and wife Elma and Milton in infancy; and five sisters, Winifred Klingenberg and husband Wallace, Nedra in infancy, Doris Valian and husband Jack, Janet Schwankhaus and husband Ardell, and Elizabeth Brinkman and husband Harry.

Private graveside services with interment of ashes will be held at a later date in the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Okawville. Military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 233 of Okawville.

Memorials may be made to Family Hospice and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
