St. Louis Labor Council has left the race ‘open’

St. Louis Teachers Local 420 is the latest union to endorse incumbent Board of Aldermen President Louis Lewis Reed for re-election.

This endorsement follows on the heels of three other union endorsements for Reed: Laborers Locals 110 and 42 and St. Louis Fire Fighters Local 73 and the Eastern Missouri Laborers’ District Council.

Two other candidates challenging Reed, State Senator Jamilah Nasheed and 15th Ward Alderwoman Megan Green, have received endorsements from SEIU Missouri/Kansas State Council and SEIU Healthcare Missouri.

The St. Louis Labor Council has chosen not to make an endorsement in the race because all three candidates have been strong supporters of workers and Labor issues. When that happens, it is standard practice for the Labor Council to leave the race “open,” allowing individual unions to offer their support for the candidates of their choice.
