IUOE 520 member killed in accident

Edwardsville, IL – Roger R. Kolweier, a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 520 was killed May 28 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville when the construction vehicle he was operating rolled and fell on him after a road gave out.

Brother Kolweier, 47, of O’Fallon, IL, was working for Keller Construction, Glen Carbon, at Stadium Road, off of New Poag Road.

The Madison County coroner’s report said a portion of the road collapsed under him about 4 p.m., causing the machine, equipped with a roller, to flip. Kolweier tried to jump but was pinned under the machine.

His co-worker found an off-duty Illinois State Trooper and his wife, who is a nurse. They administered first aid until an Edwardsville emergency crew arrived, but he died of blunt chest and abdominal trauma.

OSHA and SIUE police were investigating.

Brother Kolweier is survived by his wife Shelley and son, Jordan, both of O’Fallon; daughters, Bailey Kolweier and Stephanie (Ron) Hinton of Florissant, MO; sons, Jason (Lindsey) Stock of Sioux City, IA, Adam (Joslyn) Stock of Hampton, IA, and numerous grandchildren and extended family.

A funeral was held Tuesday, June 2, at Faith Family Church in Shiloh, IL
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial donations be made to a college fund for his son Jordan.
