Alise Martiny, the first female business manager/financial secretary of the Greater Kansas City Building & Construction Trades Council, has been honored with the first ever Trades Women Build Nations Lifetime Achievement Award.
Martiny received the award from North American’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey Oct. 29 during presentation at the 2022 Trade Women Build Nations Conference in Las Vegas. NABTU hosts the annual event.
Martiny, who was the keynote speaker at the Nov. 4 Missouri Women in Trades Tradeswoman Awards gala, has worked in the construction industry for over 40 years. In 1980, she was accepted into the Kansas City Cement Masons’ Apprenticeship Program and has worked as a journeyperson on hundreds of jobsites.
In 1993, she served as her union’s Apprenticeship Coordinator. Six year later, she became a business agent for the Cement Masons’ and Plasterer’s Local Union 518. Martiny has served as an officer at her local for six terms and currently serves as president.
Martiny was elected to serve as the business manager/financial secretary for the Greater Kansas City Building and Construction Trades Council in 2012. She currently serves on several community organizations, including the Kansas City, Mo. Construction Workforce Board, the Kansas Apprenticeship Council and many others.
