Laborers 42 picketing Sheraton Clayton Plaza Hotel
Clayton, MO – Laborers Local 42 is picketing the Sheraton Clayton Plaza Hotel, now undergoing renovation with non-union contractor GenCorp Services, which pays below area standard wages and benefits, doing the demolition work. GenCorp was the primary contractor for demolition and asbestos abatement on the Last Hotel project on Washington Ave. in St. Louis, where two workers fell to their death in an elevator shaft last year, and was cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for failing to protect workers from an electrocution hazard and failing to have a scaffold and its components properly inspected to ensure fall protections were in place. The Sheraton Clayton Plaza, at 7750 Carondelet Ave., is owned by Silverwest Hotels Inc., an investment company with Marriott, Sheraton and other hotel chain properties in its portfolio. Taking the message to the public are Local 42 members Gary Bonnard (left) and Jeffrey Coleman. – Labor Tribune photo
