Granite City, IL – About 660 families, including laid-off steelworkers and other community residents came to the Granite City Township Building Dec. 20 for holiday food packages and gift certificates provided by the St. Louis Area Foodbank along with United Way, Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR), Twigs and the United Steelworkers. About 26,000 pounds of food was distributed.

Special thanks were offered to:

• State Representative Katie Stuart (D-Edwardsville), whose collection helped fill 12 tables’ worth of clothing;

• Law firms: Becker, Schroeder & Chapman; Goldenberg, Heller & Antognoli; and Simmons Hanley Conroy; and

• Attorney C.J. Baricevic.

Also on hand to help were circuit judge candidates Sarah Smith and Marc Parker and Illinois Senate candidate Rachelle Aud Crowe.
