Members attending the recent biannual conference of the Machinists Midwest Territory Staff and Midwest States Council of Machinists raised more than $1,600 for the family of a member seriously injured last month in an explosion at the Olin Brass plant in East Alton, IL.

Business Representative Joe Eccardt said two members of the Machinists Union were injured in the blast. One member was treated and released, but member Chris Robinson remains hospitalized and is expected to have a long road to recovery, Eccardt said.

Eccardt gave a report on the Olin explosion after being called upon by General Vice President Phil Gruber.

Gruber asked the assembly of officers and staff to “pass the hat” for contributions to help Robinson and his family in their time of need.

Eccardt and Local Lodge 660 Secretary-Treasurer B. Dean Webb presented the donations to Robinson’s wife, Heather.

She expressed her appreciation and thanked everyone who donated to the cause.

“District 9 and all officers of the Machinist Union ask that you keep the Robinson family in your thoughts and prayers as we wish Chris a speedy recovery,” Gruber said.
