Madison County Fed. kicked off Labor Day festivities Aug. 24 with Union Family Parade and Picnic

East Alton, IL – As is tradition, the Greater Madison County Federation of Labor kicked off Labor Day activities Aug. 24, a week before other area parades, to launch the region’s Labor Day festivities.

The annual Union Family Picnic at Gordon Moore Community Park had live music and children’s games and the concluding rounds of the softball tournament, which was won this year by the team from Sprinkler Fitters Local 268.

Among locals joining in the parade were the Alton Education Association, Carpenters Local 664, IBEW Local 649, Iron Workers Local 392, Laborers Local 218, Laborers Local 338, Machinists Bluff City Lodge 660, Operating Engineers Local 399, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 553, Painters Local 471 and Steelworkers Local 523. – Labor Tribune photos
