Newly union-organized bars welcome your patronage

One offers donation to Guns & Hoses for special drink

One of the two most recent bars organized by UNITE HERE Local 74 has a special drink that donates 50 cents from every drink to Guns & Hoses and one that’s named after a union leader.

The two newly organized bars are:
• The Irish Gypsy, 1250 Bryan Road, O’Fallon.
• BJ’s Bar & Restaurant, 184 Washington St., Florissant.

SPECIAL DRINKS
Popular The Irish Gypsy owners, Denny and Amy Corrigan, are solid union supporters, in fact Denny is a member of Asbestos Workers Local 1. They have two union-oriented drinks:
• Kelly’s Revenge named in honor of Kelly Martorelli, the niece of deceased Operating Engineers Local 513 business manager Jack Martorelli, and a good friend of the owners. Jack was an avid supporter of Guns & Hoses and for every Kelly’s Revenge drink, they donate 50 cents to Guns & Hoses. The drink: a shot of Parrot Bay strawberry rum, peach schnapps, watermelon pucker and a splash of Sprite.
• P.J. White Delight, named after St. Louis Labor Council President Pat White, who is good friends with the owners. The drink: zero cucumber mint vodka, water and a splash of lemonade.

A STRONG UNION FAMILY TOO
BJ’s owner Jeanne Blanton is also a strong union supporter. She’s the daughter of deceased State Representative Jay Russell who died in 2016. Russell was a strong union supporter. Her union family ties include grandfather (Teamster), brother (IBEW 1), son (Elevator Constructors 3) and two nephews (Sprinkler Fitters 268, IBEW 1).
