Out-of-town contractor at Harris Stowe

St. Louis – Bricklayers Local 1 set up a banner recently at Harris Stowe State University protesting the fact the university is using an out-of-state contractor who is using out-of-town workers to do construction work. Manning the banner is Bricklayer Local 1’s Paul Mers (left) with his son Alex, who is hoping to follow his father into the trade. The banner points out the Harris Stowe’s contractor, Building Restoration Corporation, of Minnesota, is not using local minority union workers, despite the high unemployment rate for St. Louis area construction workers, especially in the African American community.  – Labor Tribune photo
