Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562 kicked off its inaugural scholarship program this year, awarding $48,000 in scholarships to members’ sons and daughters to attend an accredited college, university or trade school.

“This year we received 28 applications and started by awarding five of our members sons and daughters a one-year $5,000 scholarship,” said Local 562 Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer John O’Mara.

Each of the 23 other applicants received $1,000 scholarships. All of the scholarships were funded by members of Local 562.

“Four out of the top five recipients will be going to universities in the fall and the other will be heading to a trade school to follow in their parents footsteps,” O’Mara said.

“We were very pleased to award all 28 applicants with a scholarship to honor not only their hard work, dedication, and excitement for their future, but as a thank you for being our first scholarship recipients,” O’Mara said.  “We are really excited for the bright future of all these young adults.”
