MADISON COUNTY – United Association Plumber & Pipefitters Local 562 of St. Louis fielded the winning team this fall in the
annual James Stanley Memorial Softball Tournament, held by the Greater Madison County Federation of Labor at Gordon
Moore Park in Alton as part of its Labor Day events, with 14 teams participating this year. Federation President B. Dean Webb (left) presented the trophy Oct. 25 to team members Rick DuBose (center) and Nick Gumm. By tradition, the winning team
chooses a charity to receive the tournament proceeds. Local 562 sent the $960 to the Little Bit Foundation, which serves
impoverished children through school programs that identify youth that may not have a winter coat or the money to meet other essential needs. Local 562 added another $2,500 to the donation – for a total of $3,460 – and members and their families donated clothing and other items to help keep students warm during winter. – Labor Tribune photo
