MAKING IT OFFICIAL, State Representative Jeff Roorda submits his declaration of candidacy for the 22nd Senate District to the Missouri Secretary of States Office.

It’s official.

State Representative Jeff Roorda, St. Louis Police Officers Association business manager, last week filed to run for the Missouri State Senate – District 22, the position held by Senator Ryan McKenna until he was recently appointed by the governor to head the Missouri Department of Labor.

“The 22nd District has a long tradition of sending individuals to the State Senate that bring moderate, common-sense Jefferson County values to an institution that frankly, is starting to look more and more like Congress where extremism from the left and the right seem to rule the day.  I would be honored to carry on the tradition of those who have served before me as the Senator in the 22nd, like Ryan McKenna, Bill McKenna and Jay Nixon, all of whom have strongly encouraged me to run”, Roorda said.

“The big issue in this race is who can bring jobs back to Missouri and who can support the governor when it comes to balancing our budget and keeping taxes low. Jay Nixon says I’m that guy,” said Roorda.

Roorda has been endorsed by virtually every Democratic officeholder in Jefferson County and is not expected to face a primary challenge.
