In a unique way of recognizing the military services of their members, Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 562, the union has set up display boards with the names of their members who served and their branch of service in the lobby of the union’s new headquarters building at 3640 Corporate Trail Dr, Earth City, Mo., and produced a four-minute video interviewing a number of Local 562 members who are military veterans.
“Names are being added regularly to the display boards as word gets out and more make their service known,” said Local 562 Business Manager John O’Mara. Currently there are 240 members recognized from the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Marine Corps and Navy. There are also a few that have not indicated their branch of service.
“We felt it important to recognize these members as a way of saying ‘thank you’ for your service and let them know the pride their union brothers and sisters feel towards them,”O’Mara said.
VIDEO RECOGNITION
The idea of providing recognition beyond the display boards expanded to the union creating a video in which a number of Local 562 vets tell of their experiences.
“We felt it was important to have their stories recorded for historical purposes but also to show that their union appreciates their service,” O’Mara added.
Video participants, active members and retirees, tell their compelling stories about transitioning from their military service into the plumbing and pipefitting industry.
The video was shown at a recent union meeting and the union plans to post it soon to their website at www.local562.org.
