Affton, MO – The most recent Missouri Women in Trades (MoWIT) Construction Survival Skills workshop, held during National Apprenticeship Week, was the most well-attended to date with a dozen female carpenter pre-apprentices and women interested in the trade taking part in the free course. The Nov. 17 event was held at the Nelson-Mulligan Carpenters Training Center at 8300 Valcour Ave. in Affton, with workshops taught by journey-level tradeswomen, including a safety orientation and instruction on the use of hand and power tools and mechanical skills. The workshop courses are funded through a grant from the Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis to prepare women considering a career in the construction trades with the skills they need to hit the ground running. The next workshop will be specific to women considering a career in iron working. Visit mowit.org for more information. – MoWIT photo
