SEIU Local 1 leaders meet with St. Louis Mayor to discuss local control

St. Louis – Service Employees (SEIU) Local 1 leaders Dorian Singleton and Eugene Hubbard recently met with St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones as part of a coalition seeking to protect local control on a range of social and racial justice issues. The goal of the coalition is to roll back preemption on some key issues, which will allow local government to have a bigger say on social and racial justice issues and laws.

A fair scheduling “trigger bill” was also discussed at the meeting in the hopes of introducing a bill in the near future with the Mayor’s support. Missouri currently preempts any local ordinance from regulating wages and working conditions. The fair scheduling ordinance aims to create fair, flexible and transparent scheduling for workers. – SEIU Local 1 photo
