Smithton, IL – Big-hearted union workers continue to help Heather Michalke and her three daughters prepare their new, three-bedroom house here, south of Belleville. The family had to leave their previous home because of mold and termites. Heather is in college, and her husband recently died of cancer. Last week, members of Sheet Metal Workers Local 268 of Caseyville came out to do their part, installing the ductwork and furnace. Stepping up to help to help Heather and her daughters were (back row, from left) Scott Ricketts, Jeff Bauer, Jennifer Schneider, Nick Pulcher, Andrew Denton and Zach Carnes. Their materials were donated by signatory contractor Hock Mechanical, Crescent Parts & Equipment, Benoist Bros. Supply and Goodman Supply. The project was initiated by King’s Kids, a missionary group. Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 101 earlier took care of the plumbing in the home, while IBEW Local 309 retirees got the place wired and installed appliances. – Sheet Metal Workers Local 268 photo
