St. Louis lays fallen fire fighter Ben Polson to rest


ST. LOUIS laid to rest St. Louis fire fighter Ben Polson on Thursday, Jan. 20. Polson, 33, a member of Fire Fighters Local 73, died while battling a vacant house fire on Jan. 13. He is the first St. Louis fire fighter killed in the line of duty in the city in 20 years.

Led by a fire truck carrying Polson’s remains (above), the funeral procession passed under the raised ladders of fire trucks on the way to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. People lined the route (below) saluting, and holding signs and flags as the procession passed on the way to Resurrection Cemetery. Bill Greenblatt/UPI photos
