WORST PLACE TO RAISE A FAMILY is more often than not in a so-called “right-to-work (for less)” state, a new study shows. In the worst half of all states, 19 of 25 are RTW states (shown in yellow). At #24, Missouri is right in the middle of all states. – WalletHub graphic

In looking at intangibles that impact the lives of you and your family, a new study ranking states based on the “Worst to Best” states to raise a family paints a dramatic picture of how the phony “right-to-work (for less)” impacts one’s quality of living.

Based on the “worst” and “best” half of all states (25), using 42 relevant metrics in five vital areas that impact quality of life, the survey shows:

WORST STATES

• RTW – 19 of the worst 25 states – 76 percent – are RTW states, considered to be the “worst” states in which to raise a family.

• WITHOUT RTW – only six of the worst 25 states – 24 percent – with NO RTW law are in the “worst” half of all states in which to raise a family.

BEST STATES

• WITHOUT RTW – 17 of the best 25 states – 68 percent – with NO RTW law are considered to be the “best” states in which to raise a family.

• RTW- only eight of the best 25 states – 32 percent – are RTW states ranking in the “best” category to raise a family.

STUDY APPROACH

To make this comparison, 42 relevant metrics were used in each of five key areas: Health and Safety, Education and Child Care, Affordability, Socio-economics and Family Fun.

The survey was conducted as part of the ongoing research efforts of WalletHub, a financial services site based in Washington, DC. that also offers insights on a diverse variety of community of subjects. Its data and charts are frequently referenced in news articles appearing in Bloomberg News, The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, USA Today, Forbes, Yahoo and The New York Times.

This is just one of many examples of the negative impact the phony RTW has had on working families in states that have imposed this destructive anti-union, anti-worker law.

VOTE ‘NO’ ON PROP A

Missourians will have a chance August 7 to defeat RTW by voting NO on PROP A, sending a clear message to Missouri lawmakers that we don’t want to join the ranks of Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and other states where working people can’t earn a fair wage for their work but where the wealthiest 1% and their corporate lobbyists use this anti-worker law to enrich themselves.

New series exposes phony RTW

This is the first of a series of articles by the Labor Tribune about issues that impact the overall well-being of workers in phony “right-to-work (for less)” states. We’ll be analyzing the vital economic impact on workers’ paychecks and families but also examining the less tangible, but equally important, aspects of RTW that affect our way of life, using information from the Department of Labor, the Economic Policy Institute and other reliable agencies that gather and interpret national data.

Our goal:

• To give working people a broader understanding of how bad RTW will be for us and our families not only in paychecks, but in a host of quality of life issues.

• To encourage you, you family and friends, to Vote NO on PROP A on the Aug. 7 ballot.
