All union sisters are invited

Join your union sisters Saturday, Aug. 4 for a Vote No on Prop A canvass and then celebrate sisterhood afterward at the IBEW Local 1 Union Hall. All union sisters are invited to attend.
The day will begin at 10 a.m. at the hall, located at 5850 Elizabeth Ave. in St. Louis, with the door-to-door canvass. The second annual sisterhood celebration will follow the volunteer effort from 2 to 8 p.m.
IBEW Local 1 is providing hot dogs, hamburgers, water, soda and beer. Guests are encouraged to bring a potluck item. The suggested guideline is as follows. If your last name begins with:
- A – H, bring an appetizer or snack;
- I – Q, bring a salad or side dish;
- R – Z, bring a dessert.
The event also will include attendance prizes from IBEW Local 1, Milwaukee Tools, Hampton Shoe, St. Louis Football Club and Sassy Sunshine Products.
IBEW Local 1 electrician Stacey Bonuso came up with the idea for last year’s event after spending years in the building trades where she was often the only woman at the jobsite. Then she worked on the recent BJC Campus Renewal Project where she was able to meet and work with about 50 other tradeswomen.
“Seeing the other tradeswomen at that job made me realize that I can’t be the only one feeling alone out there and that we as sisters need real face time in a social atmosphere,” she said. “Last year’s event was such a success, we immediately booked the hall for this year’s event. I’m hoping everyone will join us for food, fun and fellowship.”
