MOWITMissouri Women in the Trades (MoWIT) is sponsoring a networking event on April 6 to help raise money to send local tradeswomen to the upcoming Women Build Nations Conference in Chicago.

The fundraiser will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. at Lilly’s Music & Social House, 2321 Arsenal St., in St. Louis. There will be a 50/50 drawing and a raffle for a Tomboy tool belt kit. Additionally, Lilly’s has agreed to donate 10 percent of all food and beverage purchases during the event to MoWIT for the effort.

The sixth annual conference, co-sponsored by the North American Building Trades Unions (NABTU) and Chicago Women in the Trades, will be held April 29 to May 1 at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare Hotel and Conference Center in Rosemont, Ill. It’s the first time in the event’s history that it will be held outside of California.

Beth Barton, MoWIT president, has attended four of the last five conferences and is a member of the National Tradeswomen Taskforce, which helps guide the annual conference workshops. She said the conference provides a great opportunity to stay up-to-date on emerging trends and to network with some of the most influential women around.

“I am so excited to say that we already have over 1,000 women registered for the conference,” she said. “I’m hoping our fundraising event will be able to help more local tradeswomen attend the event, especially since the conference is so close to home this year.”
