CARRYING LABOR’S TORCH, Jeff Collier, a union representative for United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 881 in Edwardsville, had the honor of introducing Governor J.B. Pritzker on April 14 at the signing of the state’s new landmark ban on local “right-to-work” zones, called the Collective Bargaining Freedom Act. The measure was drafted and adopted with strong majorities in both the Illinois House and Senate as a response to former Gov. Bruce Rauner’s attempt to create city and county level “right-to-work” zones as part of his anti-union agenda.
