Can you help with GoFundMe drive?

With Christmas just around the corner and parents in need wanting to give their kids a positive experience, UFCW Local 655 has launched a special online GoFundMe drive so the union can buy toys for those families, Local 655 President David Cook announced.

If you want to help buy toys for kids in need, go to: gofundme.com/f/ufcw-local-655-holiday-toy-drive.

“No child should have to experience the holiday season without a toy,” Cook said. “Our goal is to get as many toys for as many children as possible. Help from our brothers and sisters in the Labor Movement will be appreciated.”

The toys will go to the Youth and Family Center of St. Louis, a non-profit that sponsors a wide variety of youth programs, Sickle Cell education and awareness, family support services (e.g. over 5,300 hot meals to children and older adults last year alone) as well as many programs for seniors.

This is Local 655’s fourth year sponsoring the toy drive. Normally it’s held among its own members, but this year the need is so great under unusual circumstances it is reaching out to the goodwill of the entire Labor Movement.

“Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, we are not holding our normal in-person holiday events. Since these events are normally when we collect our toys, we’re asking anyone who wants to lend a hand this year to donate a few dollars toward the purchase of toys for needy children in St. Louis,” notes the local’s GoFundMe web page.

“Every dollar you donate will go directly to purchasing toys for children of all ages! We’re grateful for anything you can donate and THANK YOU in advance for helping us give back to our community!” Cook said.

For anyone wishing to drop off toys they’ve already purchased and would like to donate, the union is accepting them at its hall, 300 Weidman Rd, Ballwin, Mo.
