CANVASSING and phone bank volunteers are needed to help defeat Prop A (RTW).

There are plenty of Get Out The Vote (GOTV) canvassing opportunities to defeat Prop A (RTW) and other activities to make your weekend on Saturday, Aug. 4 in the St. Louis area and across the state. We’re just days away from the Aug. 7 election. Any amount of time you can give canvassing or phone banking for the GOTV effort will help.

Here are some of the major events happening locally:

Tri-County Labor Club GOTV canvassing

We Are MO will be canvassing out of Tri-County Labor Club headquarters at 12 Droste Square in St Charles. Doors will open at 8:15 a.m. for a short training session. Members will walk from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., then head over to Lakeside Park in St. Peters for the Labor Tug-O-War and Family Picnic.

The Rockwood  and Tri-County Labor Clubs’ popular local vs. local Labor Tug-O-War returns with a reminder to Vote ‘NO’ on Prop A to defeat so-called “right-to-work.”

This event, at 370 Lakeside Park in St. Peters, MO, will include a family picnic, kids games, Kids Tug-O-War and Kids Fishing Tournament.

In addition to reminding everyone to get out and Vote ‘NO’ on Prop A, the event will help raise funds for Rebuilding Together St. Louis, the union-supported program that helps low-income elderly and disabled homeowners.

The day’s activities will include:

  • • Labor Tug-O-War
  • • A family picnic with food provided by Rockwood and Tri-County Labor Clubs.
  • • A Kids Tug-O-War and other kid’s games, with candy and prizes for all participants.
  • • A Kids Fishing event from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., sponsored by the Rockwood and Tri-County Labor Clubs and the Missouri AFL-CIO. The first 100 kids will receive a FREE rod and reel courtesy of the Labor clubs, the Missouri AFl-CIO and Pure Fishing.
  • • Attendance prizes including: Cardinals tickets, gift cards and a couple of bicycles.

Star Power GOTV Canvass at Laborer’s Local 42 

The Missouri AFL-CIO is hosting a canvass with special guest SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris, best known for her work on the 1990s television series Beverly Hills, 90210. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Laborers Local 42 at 301 S. Ewing Ave. in St. Louis.

Sisterhood Canvass & Celebration

Join your union sisters for a canvass and then celebrate sisterhood afterward at the IBEW Local 1 Union Hall at 5850 Elizabeth Ave. in St. Louis All union sisters are invited to attend. The canvass begins at 10 a.m. and the sisterhood celebration will follow from 2 to 8 p.m.

Union Night at St. Louis FC

Join St. Louis Labor Council President Pat White and other working men and women for a night dedicated to unions at the St Louis FC soccer game and remind visitors to vote NO on Prop A.

Tickets for the event are $15, and $3 from each ticket sold will go to support the Labor Council’s $5 for the Fight Fund.

The game starts at 7:30 p.m. in Toyota Stadium at World Wide Technology Soccer Park (formally St. Louis Soccer Park) at 1 Soccer Park Rd. in Fenton. St. Louis FC will face off against the Seattle Sounders FC 2.
