YOUR LETTERS: Safe, accessible voting for all is critical

Jews, like all religions, have an obligation to protect one of the most important constitutional rights for us all —  the right to vote. Unfortunately, Missouri has some of the most restrictive voting laws in the country.

With the COVID-19 pandemic a major concern, we should be focusing on ways to make it easier to vote by mail and to vote early in our upcoming 2020 elections. Individuals should not have to choose between exercising their constitutional right to vote and their health and safety.

SPEAK UP
Make your voice heard on this issue. Call Missouri Governor Mike Parson at 573-751-3222 and Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft at 573-751-4936 and urge them to do the following:

  • Support two weeks of early voting before each of the upcoming June, August and November elections.
  • Support no-excuse absentee voting to allow citizens to vote by mail and give election officials the flexibility to provide the voting options people need.
  • Support streamlined online and automatic voter registration.
  • Support funding for our local election authorities to respond to emerging challenges with elections with a large turnout.
