The United Way of Greater St. Louis is offering a one-day Union Community Activist Network (UCAN) training session on Friday, Dec. 2 to help union leaders become the link between people who need help and the agencies and services that can help.
The event, which is being co-sponsored by the St. Louis Labor Council, the Greater Madison County Federation of Labor, and Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the United Way of Greater St. Louis, 910 North 11th St. in St. Louis. Free parking is available in the C-9 garage across the street.
Some of the topics that will be covered include: legal resources; updates on the heroin and opioid epidemic; alternatives to pay day loans; LGBTQ from a union perspective; programs for veterans; workforce training and apprenticeships; and the many services from basic needs to child care to disaster relief to counseling available through United Way 2-1-1.
The registration fee is $20, and lunch will be provided. For more information on the event or to register, call Roz Sherman-Voellinger, United Way Labor Liaison, at 314-539-4193 or email her at roz.voellinger@stl.unitedway.org.
