Women learn tricks of the building trades at MoWIT Survival Skills Workshop

ST. LOUIS – About 10 women, some new to the construction industry and others who are new to their union trades, braved chilly temperatures and pouring rain to attend a recent Missouri Women in Trades (MoWIT) Survival Skills Workshop where they learned the proper way to use a ladder and a wheelbarrow, and received tips on how to carry materials while on the jobsite. MoWIT President Beth Barton, (right) explained the importance of always maintaining three physical points of contact while climbing a ladder to Kary Hart, a carpenter’s apprentice (on the ladder), while IBEW Local 1 apprentice Tiffany Jones helps steady the ladder. The MoWIT Survival Skills Workshops, held at the MoWIT office in St. Louis, provide new tradeswomen and women considering careers in the trades with the skills they need to hit the ground running in the building trades.
