Jefferson City – In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, the Missouri AFL-CIO is hosting a Missouri Working Women’s Lobby Day on March 6 at the State Capitol.
“International Women’s Day provides us with a tremendous opportunity to bring the issues that matter to working women to Missouri legislators,” said Mike Louis, president of the Missouri AFL-CIO. “Worker issues are women’s issues, attacks on workers are attacks on women, and there is no one better than Missouri’s working women to carry that message.”
The event is open to all union members and will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., starting with a meeting at Bone’s Banquet Center at 210 Commercial Ave. in Jefferson City where participants will be served a continental breakfast, discuss the issues facing Missouri working women and listen to comments from State Senator and Missouri State Council of Building & Construction Trades President Gina Walsh (D-Bellefontaine Neighbors) and House Democratic Leader Crystal Quade (D-Springfield).
Afterward, union members will wall the halls of the State Capitol and talk with state senators and representatives about what matters to Missouri’s working women.
“With so much going on in Jefferson City, it’s important that our voices, the voices of Missouri women are heard,” Louis said. “I would encourage anyone interested to attend and celebrate International Women’s Day with the solidarity of union sisterhood.”
