Former IBEW 309 leader Robert ‘Mike’ Faust dies

Collinsville, IL – Robert Joseph “Mike” Faust, the former business manager and financial secretary of IBEW Local 309 from 1970 through 1990, has died at age 86.

A memorial service “Celebration of the Life of Robert ‘Mike’ Faust” is planned from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Local 309 hall, at 2000 Mall St. along Illinois 157 in Collinsville.

Brother Faust, 86, of Maryville, IL, died Saturday, Aug. 13, at Anderson Hospital. A native of East St. Louis, he was born on Dec. 27, 1929. He grew up in St. Joseph’s Parish and graduated from Central Catholic High School’s Class of 1947.

Faust flew in B-36’s over Korea, then came home and married Margaret Sabo, who grew up a few blocks away. His passions in life were family and friends, sports and Local 309.

His family reports that he battled Alzheimer’s disease before his death. He was cared for by his wife in their home until shortly before his death.

Brother Faust is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Elizabeth Faust; son Mike, daughter Beth and granddaughters Nicole and Katie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the former Mary Ellen Walsh and Eugene Albert Faust; sisters Eugenia, Lorraine and Ruth and brothers Charles and Albert.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the IBEW Local 309 Distressed Members’ Fund, 2000 Mall St., Collinsville, Ill., 62234.
