Relief fund established help Hawaiian union families

To help the thousands of union families who lost everything in the massive Hawaiian wildfires of last week, the AFL-CIO has launched a special relief fund: Hawaii State AFL-CIO Labor Community Services Program/Hawaii Employees Lifeline Program.

AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler made a special appeal to unions and union members for donations. For locals, the suggested donation is $2,500; from individuals, whatever you can afford. There are two ways to donate:

• Checks should be made payable to Hawaii Employees Lifeline Program and mailed to Cathy Lederer at 888 Mililani St., Suite 501, Honolulu, HI 96813 OR payable to the Union Community Fund (note in the memo line: “Disaster Relief Efforts)” and mailed to: 815 Black Lives Matter Plaza NW, Washington, DC 20006.

• Credit card: to the Union Community Fund at go.aflcio.org/relief.

“Rebuilding will cost billions,” Shuler said in her appeal. “Please take a moment to toss a lifeline to our union brothers, sisters and siblings during this tragic time.”
